Flights Gradually Restart at Edinburgh Hub After Air Traffic Control Disruption
Air travel services are slowly recommencing at Edinburgh airport after a midday halt caused by technical complications within its air traffic management system.
Operations began gradually resuming around 10:40am, as confirmed in an update shared via the airport’s social media channels.
Multiple departing aircraft remained grounded on runways for nearly two hours, with ongoing delays and disturbances anticipated. Several arriving flights were rerouted to alternate locations.
Travelers were previously instructed to consult their carriers directly for updates while airport teams and technical partners addressed the outage.
Approximately 15 million passengers annually—averaging 43,000 daily—utilize Edinburgh, designating it as Scotland’s primary air hub with connections to 155 global destinations.
Carriers such as easyJet and Ryanair were notably impacted by cancellations.
Technical malfunctions within air traffic systems, particularly IT-related failures, remain persistent challenges for aviation operations. The facility previously experienced closures during a similar technical failure linked to Crowdstrike in previous July.
Air Navigation Solutions manages the airport’s air traffic services.
The incident is confirmed as having no connection to Cloudflare’s service interruption occurring earlier today.
