James Cleverly signals possible entry into Tory top-tier race – Updates on British political scene unfolding in real time

Good morning, this is Sammy Gecsoyler and I'll be bringing you up-to-date on current events at Westminster today.

Following Mel Stride's contemplation of a leadership bid earlier in the week, another prominent individual appears to have expressed their interest in running for office. James Cleverly has suggested that he may enter the race before nominations commence later this week.

The current shadow home minister was speaking with ITV's Good Morning Britain when he mentioned: "Indeed, there are others who have also considered the future of our nation and what we can contribute to it. While I don't believe my thoughts are unique in that regard."

He continued by saying, "I always strive to fulfill my duties as best as possible. In government, I focused on delivering results. At present, with opposition at the helm, my priority is holding the Labour party accountable for their actions and decisions."
