Jeremy Hunt's three children shared personal notes with Keir Starmer's teenage son and daughter following last week's general election. The messages contained guidance for life in Downing Street.
The prime minister expressed his delight at the reception of these letters from the Hunt family, who have resided above No 11 since their father served as chancellor.
The Starmer household has not yet fully settled into Downing Street's larger official residence due to Prime Minister and First Lady Victoria's overseas trip for a Nato summit in Washington D.C.
In addition, Keir Starmer disclosed that he conversed with his former Conservative colleague Rishi Sunak while traversing Downing Street during the election period. Despite their political rivalry, he acknowledged no personal animosity towards Sunak.
"The children left heartfelt messages for ours upon entering 11 Downing St," Starmer explained to reporters on his flight to Washington D.C., where he also engaged with the US president, Joe Biden, at the White House.
Although they have not yet moved in due to concerns of leaving their children unsupervised during his absence, both Hunt and Starmer appreciated the gesture from the previous residents as a special surprise for their young ones who were experiencing Downing Street firsthand.
Jeremy Hunt declined to disclose the content of these notes but understood that they offered advice on life above No 11.
Starmer, when asked about his interaction with Sunak post-election, emphasized there was no personal animosity between them and recalled a warm conversation during their walk in Downing Street.
Meanwhile, Keir Starmer's family is set to become neighbours with Chancellor Rachel Reeves, her spouse Nick Joicey, and their two children as they move into the smaller flat above No 10.
Reflecting on his recent days in office after winning the election, Starmer acknowledged it was a time of adjustment for him and his family. However, he expressed satisfaction with swiftly assuming responsibilities while prioritizing spending quality time with his loved ones.
