Additional Trade Measures Anticipated as Trump Stands by Tariffs
Good morning and welcome to our live updates on US political developments.
Former President Donald Trump hinted at further trade-related announcements after reaffirming his support for tariffs in a post on Truth Social.
Late Tuesday, he stated:
"A minimum of seven countries will be included in trade-related announcements tomorrow morning, with additional details on other nations to follow in the afternoon. Thank you for following this issue."
The message followed another post in which he claimed, "Tariffs have had NO EFFECT on Inflation" and repeated his demand for Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to lower interest rates.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump promised to intensify trade disputes, proposing steep tariffs—up to 200% on imported pharmaceuticals and 50% on copper—though his plans have been inconsistent, as reported by CuriosityNews.
For instance, shortly after suggesting his latest tariff deadline was flexible, he later asserted there would be "no extensions beyond August 1."
