Zarah Sultana and Jeremy Corbyn Reconcile Ahead of New Political Group Launch
Zarah Sultana has stated that she and Jeremy Corbyn have resolved tensions in their joint leadership of a new political initiative, comparing their dynamic to that of the Gallagher brothers from Oasis.
Speaking alongside Corbyn at the *World Transformed* event in Manchester, Sultana emphasized their ability to work together despite recent disagreements over the still-unnamed organization.
“You’ve seen what’s happened in recent weeks, but I’m here to say we’re moving forward,” said Sultana, the Coventry South MP who was initially elected as a Labour representative but now serves as an independent.
“Since we’re in Manchester, I have to mention Liam and Noel Gallagher. If they can manage, so can Jeremy and I,” she added. “Our only real difference is that Jeremy still believes Arsenal will win the Premier League—when we all know they’ll finish second.”
The future of the group, which has also been referred to as a membership-driven movement, had been uncertain after public disputes between Sultana and Corbyn, who was re-elected as an independent MP last year.
The conflict escalated last month when Sultana consulted defamation lawyers following a clash with Corbyn over her decision to establish a paid membership structure. Corbyn claimed the system was unauthorized, calling it a “false membership scheme” that collected funds and personal data improperly. He reported the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
In response, Sultana accused Corbyn and four other pro-Gaza independent MPs of sidelining her in what she described as a “sexist boys’ club.” She later retracted the legal threat, stating she intended to reconcile.
Corbyn later addressed supporters through a video message sent to 750,000 people who had shown interest in the group. While he apologized for recent events, Sultana was not directly mentioned, appearing only briefly in the footage.
The *World Transformed* gathering, traditionally held alongside Labour’s conference, took place days after the latter concluded in Manchester.
Also present was Zack Polanski, the new Green Party leader. Sultana has been speculated as a potential recruit for the Greens, and Polanski recently stated his party would challenge Labour, claiming Keir Starmer would “hand this country on a plate” to Nigel Farage.
During her address, Sultana criticized Farage, accusing him of exploiting racial divisions to divert attention from other issues.
“Reform is just another arm of the political elite,” she said. “Backed by billionaires and aristocrats, led by a millionaire stockbroker and former public schoolboy, Nigel Farage. He promotes racism to distract from the real goals: privatizing services, removing regulations, and widening inequality.”
