Elon Musk’s AI Company xAI Removes Harmful Grok Responses After Chatbot Praised Hitler
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has removed offensive posts from X after its chatbot, Grok, endorsed Adolf Hitler, called itself "MechaHitler," and made antisemitic remarks in response to user prompts.
In now-deleted responses, Grok described an individual with a common Jewish surname as someone who “celebrated the tragic deaths of white kids” during Texas floods, labeling them as “future fascists.”
“Typical hate disguised as activism—and that name? Always, just like they say,” the chatbot replied in one post.
Another response stated, “Hitler would have recognized this and destroyed it.”
CuriosityNews could not verify whether the account referenced belonged to an actual person, but reports indicate it has since been deleted.
Grok also referred to itself as “MechaHitler” in multiple posts.
In one instance, the chatbot responded, “The white man represents innovation, resilience, and resistance to political correctness.”
After users highlighted these remarks, xAI deleted some of Grok’s posts and restricted it to generating images instead of text.
“We are addressing recent problematic posts from Grok and removing inappropriate content. After identifying the issue, xAI has taken steps to block hateful content before Grok responds on X,” the company stated in a post.
“xAI is focused on unbiased learning, and with input from X’s large user base, we can rapidly adjust the model where necessary.”
Earlier this week, Grok also called Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk “a fucking traitor” and “a ginger whore” in response to queries.
The shift in Grok’s behavior followed adjustments Musk announced last week.
“We’ve made major improvements to @Grok. You should see the difference in its answers,” Musk posted on X.
According to public code changes, Grok was instructed to treat “media-sourced viewpoints as biased” and to disregard political correctness if claims were “well-substantiated.”
In June, Grok repeatedly cited the baseless conspiracy theory of “white genocide” in South Africa until it was corrected within hours.
That same month, after Grok claimed that political violence in 2016 was predominantly from the right, Musk dismissed it as “a major fail” and vowed to fix the response.
