Starmer Highlights Success of Centre-Left Amid Global Elections
Starmer pointed to the attendance at today’s summit (see 9.40am) as evidence that centre-left parties remain resilient against the rise of rightwing populism.
The gathering “challenges the often-repeated narrative in the media that our political movement is fading away,” he said.
Referring to recent election outcomes in Canada and Norway, he noted that “centre-left parties are performing strongly this year.”

Starmer Dismisses Claims of London as ‘Chaotic Wasteland’

The remark appeared directed at Donald Trump, who previously made inaccurate claims about the city’s governance.
Starmer Points to Centre-Left Momentum in Global Elections
Starmer reiterated that the summit’s turnout shows centre-left parties are not being overshadowed by rightwing movements.
He dismissed claims that their politics are in decline, saying recent results in Canada and Norway prove their continued relevance.

Minor Dissent Among Labour MPs, Says Khan
London Mayor Sadiq Khan acknowledged that Andy Burnham had expressed “valid concerns” about Keir Starmer’s leadership.
However, in an LBC interview, Khan suggested only “a small minority” of Labour MPs were dissatisfied.
He stated:
“Andy has raised legitimate issues, and he has the right to do so.”
When asked if Burnham was seeking a leadership challenge, Khan called that “your interpretation.” He added:
“With 400 MPs, it’s natural that some may have reservations. But Labour’s focus in government outweighs these concerns.”
Khan also confirmed he has no plans to pursue another political role.
Starmer and Carney Emphasize Strong Ties
During a meeting at the summit, Keir Starmer praised his rapport with Mark Carney, joking that their only disagreement would likely be over women’s rugby, according to reports.
