Officials Suggest Suspect May Have Targeted NFL Office in Manhattan Shooting, Mayor Says

The individual who fired shots inside a Manhattan office building left a note indicating he held the National Football League responsible for a brain injury he believed he had, according to New York mayor Eric Adams.

Two sources familiar with the situation previously informed NBC News that the note, recovered at the scene, mentioned CTE—a brain disorder linked to repeated head impacts—as a possible factor in his mental health struggles.

“A note was found on him. It suggested he believed he suffered from CTE, a condition associated with contact sports. He seemed to blame the NFL for his condition,” Adams stated during an interview with CBS’s This Morning.

The high-rise where the shooting took place on Monday evening includes the NFL’s headquarters.

During an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Adams was questioned about a potential connection, acknowledging that while the suspect, Shane Tamura, had not played college football, he had participated in the sport at a high school in California.

“He referenced CTE. He was not an NFL player, but we have reason to believe he was focused on the NFL offices located in the building. We will continue working with federal authorities to determine the motive and locate any additional weapons,” Adams said.

Investment Firm Confirms Executive Among Fatalities

A financial services company confirmed that one of its senior executives was among those killed when a gunman, armed with a rifle, entered the lobby of a midtown Manhattan office building and began firing on Monday.

“We are deeply saddened to report that our colleague, Wesley LePatner, was among the victims of the tragic event at 345 Park Avenue. No words can fully convey our grief,” the firm said in a statement.

LePatner held the position of senior managing director and served as global head of core+ real estate, as well as CEO of the company’s real estate investment division.

Senators Call for Action on Gaza Aid Concerns

Twenty-one Democratic senators are urging Donald Trump to cease funding for a disputed Gaza aid organization, which they argue has contributed to the deaths of over 700 civilians seeking assistance and breached long-standing humanitarian protocols.

The letter, spearheaded by senators Chris Van Hollen of Maryland and Peter Welch of Vermont, follows growing international condemnation of the U.S. and Israeli-supported Gaza aid initiative. They assert that its approach “undermines established principles governing humanitarian aid distribution since the 1949 Geneva conventions” by conflating aid delivery with other operational objectives.
